    Lighthouse in the Blue Hour

The Tybee Island lighthouse, located on Georgia's Tybee Island, along the Savannah River, is the oldest and tallest lighthouse in Georgia. The lighthouse dates back to 1732 when General James Oglethorpe ordered its construction. The lighthouse was rebuilt four times, as a result of foul weather, erosion, and the Civil War. The current lighthouse was established in 1866 and elevated to 154 feet. The lighthouse was fitted for electricity in 1933 and then automated in 1971. Today the lighthouse is still a functioning lighthouse and has 178 steps to the top.
